I hope you will keep your language.
The history is painful.
Wish people will find the solution and live in peace. But everything are not simple in life...
Yes, knowing several languages makes a person richer.
But I hope russification will never happen and your beautiful country will save your unique native identification.
I wish something really will change on Earth and people will learn to understand, respect each other, to love, and live in peace.
''And how many struggles must there be
Before we choose to live the prophet's plan''
''How many victims must there be
Slaughtered in vain across the land
And how many children must we see
Before we learn to live as brothers
And leave one family oh...''
''All nations sing
Let's harmonize all around the world''
I'm a dreamer?

I have to say that I know few Russians also voted against. Although they want ppl to speak Russian but they don't think Russian language should be so official in Latvia.
The voting has been closed in Latvia and the counting has began. This was the most active referendum since the times when Latvia got back its independence although it's not the record in Latvia. Totally 69.3% of all citizens who can vote has voted in Latvia.
I will let you know how the things are going.

Not all stations has been counted yet but I wanted to let you know already that Latvian language will still be the only official language in Latvia
From 1035 stations, 842 stations has been counted and so far the results are For 24% and Against 75%. I will write the correct numbers when it will be known.
And it looks like the politician who wanted this referendum will not gather number of voters For that he said he would be happy about. He said he would be happy about 300 000 votes. Cause so far it's only 185 727 who voted For. He said he wanted take that number 300 000 go to EU to find some support and question Latvia.

Most of Latvians today added this song in their profile
It's performed by Brainstorm and its title is "My Song". I think why Latvians remember this song today is cause of the chorus and "And I know, no one will sing it in my place" cause the result of referendum depended on us and no one would make that choice in our place but us.
Translation:
My Song
When computer is turned off and mobile is silent
Let me come to you tonight
I wanna learn first steps
And start the first song
The star's way is long
Where you would take me
On small path past Gauja (magic: one of the rivers in Latvia)
Or take a circle in the world
Those are the words from my nation
And the song is also from it
And I know, no one will sing it
In my place
Tell me, Northen winds
Where does this stubbornness in me comes from?
After the storm there always will be sun
After the night - always the morning
And you, bright bonfire
With you I will warm and burn
See in thickest dark
To jump over in John's night
Those are the words from my nation
And the song is also from it
And I know, no one will sing it
In my place
I make a step closer
And feel that you are there
I would wish to always stand like this
Between moment and eternity
Those are the words from my nation
And the song is also from it
And I know, no one will sing it
In my place
