Glee to Celebrate Songs of Michael Jackson in Tribute Episode

Posted Image

Michael Jackson's legions of fans have major cause to celebrate today.

Similar to Season 1's Madonna tribute, the January 24 episode of Fox's Glee will feature 10-12 songs from Jackson's library. The episode is being fast-tracked in the writers' room now and is expected to begin shooting this Friday. Half of the episode will shoot before the cast breaks for the holidays, with the remaining numbers to be completed in January.

While creator Ryan Murphy has been teasing since the summer that a special spring tribute episode was in the offing, it took some convincing to assure the Jackson family that their late son/brother/father would be honored appropriately. Now, they have given their enthusiastic support.

You can get a taste of what's to come in tonight's "Sectionals" episode, which features several classic Jackson family numbers. Finn, Puck, Blaine and Mike sing "Man in the Mirror;" Tina, Kurt and Mike take the lead on The Jackson 5's "ABC;" and Artie, Blaine and Sam do their rendition of Janet Jackson's "Control." According to Ryan, the "kids" had such a fun time performing these MJ numbers, as well as "Thriller" in last year's Super Bowl episode, that he made an extra effort to seal the Jackson tribute deal before the end of 2011. Now he says the cast is flooding him with requests to sing their fave Jackson numbers.

Glee has purposely avoided such splashy episodes this season as part of a renewed commitment to focus on story over spectacle. But if there was ever a reason to break that moratorium, the songbook of Michael Jackson is probably the greatest.

They do :lol. Dont know if you seen them do Thriller but it was an awful version of the song. They ruined the song for me that time.

I've only heard them in TV ads or in xtravision when I've been in there, but that's enough for me. I don't want to hear them singing one of my favourite songs like Thriller. Even my cousin, who loves the show, turns the volume down when they're singing because she doesn't like it :lol

Michael Jackson 'Glee' episode: Actor Darren Criss talks iconic King of Pop song

The superstar that is Michael Jackson, remains one of the most beloved singers of all-time. It was announced a few weeks ago that Glee would be taking on some of the star's songs, and according to a new interview, one of the show's stars, Darren Criss discusses the new episode and one of Jackson's most iconic songs, "Wanna Be Startin' Something."

As Zap2it reports, Darren Criss said of Glee and the Michael Jackson episode and the lyrics of 'Wanna Be Startin' Something': "Wildest lyrics ever! It's cool because it's Michael Jackson. But at one point he's like, 'You're a vegetable. You're a vegetable. They eat off of you. You're just a buffet. You're a vegetable.' [And it's like], 'Whatever. Michael Jackson's singing it. It's cool!'"

Michael Jackson fans are looking forward to watching the new episode of Glee, to see what it will be like, and what songs will be performed. It was recently reported that Grauman's Chinese Theatre will be honoring the King of Pop, and the fans are also excited about that as well.

'Glee' Michael Jackson Episode: Official Images Released (Photos)

Posted Image

Wanna be startin' some excitement over the Michael Jackson episode of "Glee" (airing Tues., Jan 31 at 8 p.m. EST on Fox)?

Fox has released the first official photos from the upcoming episode, which reveal a main stage performance -- in which each member of the New Directions dons a different iconic Jackson look -- and a slushie-hurling number in a desolate garage.

Though a reported song list that hit the web in late December has not yet been confirmed, the photos give some definite hints about who will be singing what in "Michael."

The rumor that Santana and rivaling Warbler Sebastian duke it out over Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" appears to be true, based on her ensemble. And considering it's the only rumored naughty-themed group battle cry, if the song list is accurate, it looks like the New Directions and the Warblers will be crooning "Bad" in that abandoned parking garage where Blaine gets a slushie in the face.

As for the New Directions' big stage performance of "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" -- on which Blaine takes the lead -- the photos do offer a look at which Michael each of glee clubbers is dressing as: Kevin McHale, who plays Artie, recently told The Huffington Post that the red leather "Thriller" jacket was bestowed upon him while Brittany got tied up in a "Bad" costume.

"The one number we did where everybody wore a different Michael outfit was just incredible. It was like everybody liked somebody else's more than their own," McHale said. "We had no idea what everybody was going to wear until we got to set and were like, "Oh my god! Look at yours!' ... We were all just freaking out."

Check out the photos and see if you can guess which Michaels the rest of the cast are supposed to be below!

^ its mostly for teenagers the story lines are very much geared towards them. Its a music comedy drama show. Its based around an american dance/music school. Mostly everybody is happy. Although they have touched on issues like race, disability, gay, and image issues. The guy who created Glee is Irish :D. he was going to make Glee into a film but decided on a TV series instead.

I don't really understand why are you performing famous songs? Don't they have their own songs?

They use songs that are popular to draw in the audience. Last night I watched the 'Michael' episode and I thought it was an amazing tribute to MJ. There was a part in it where one of the characters said that she couldn't get Michael or understand why so many liked him. Then another said that his songs were amazing and that he was a great dancer. There was some performances I liked Smooth Criminal and Human Nature. Also the mentioned The Immortal show alot and said that they were going to it.

I have found part 1 of the show on you tube but no luck with the other parts.

That's the longest I have watched from that show. And only cause it has Michael theme. I don't like movies where characters start to sing suddenly, come in some class and then everybody in the class knows the words and steps and start to sing and dance and everything is so happy including teachers even if their class is interrupted by singing guys. Or suddenly they appear in the space ship lol

And why the guy has a wheelchair if he can walk? :confused

I think its fun to watch and not so serious. Its mostly a comedy drama really. I find the guy coming out of the wheelchair strange. Although its not the first time that he has got out of it. I think they push the boundries a bit. The show reminds me of the Fame series but that one was serious and more interesting to watch. Glee is for kids and teenagers.
