Has anyone bought the 2-DVD edition of E.T. that's out there in the shops now? I really want this film, but as some of you know, I hate the P.C. 2002 version. I have found some information online that says both versions are on the 2-disc set, but it's not clear if that's only in America or not, and when I look up the film nobody mentions if both versions are out here. All it says on the box is 'anniversary version' but does not say if the 1982 version is included. I'm just after finding this interview from last month with Spielberg and he said:

Quote

Steven Spielberg: When people ask me which E.T. they should look at, I always tell them to look at the original 1982 E.T. If you notice, when we did put out E.T. we put out two E.T.s. We put out the digitally enhanced version with the additional scenes and for no extra money, in the same package, we put out the original ‘82 version. I always tell people to go back to the ’82 version.

So, if you have it, or if you know someone who has it, is the original version included? Either R2 or R1 will do. It's really frustrating because the information isn't clear and I'm not going to pay money for it unless I know that both versions are included, and I'm not buying the one with only the P.C. version. And I can't record it from TV because they're only showing the 2002 one. Please help :sunflower

I found one Collector's Edition set for here which has the 1982 version on it, but it's not cheap, either used or completely new. I think I'll see if anyone can answer this or not first and decide which one I'm going to get.

Just a question. What does P.C. 2002 mean?
And do you know what has changed?

Normally I would say digital enhanced means better.

P.C. means politically correct. Spielberg had a P.C. moment and changed one scene, he digitally removed some guns and replaced them with walkie-talkies. It was a stupid edit, as the guns were not really aimed at the kids, and taking them out changed the mood of the scene. There's screenshots of it and more details on the wikipedia page. 2002 was the year it was released on DVD, it was the anniversary of the film, and most versions in the shops only have this one.

It seem slike he changed more than one scene :o Look at this http://movie-censors....php?ID=5229907

It seems that theatrical version hasn't been release in DVD. You may find VHS but not DVD. They did those change cause they think they would make the movie better so they don't have a reason to release the worse version (in their opinion). And since it's not released in DVD it may also not be available in Torrent unless somebody recorded from TV or converted from VHS.

He did change a lot of it, even though it has the same plot, it's almost a different film. Looking at the caps on that site, the puppet looks more real to me, and not just because that's what I grew up with. The shape of the mouth, the eyes, they look more like a real being than the CG one. The CG E.T. looks silly, and some of the shots in the original were not bad, so I don't understand why change them so that they look fake. This is why I didn't like the LOTR films because they used too much CG and it looked really silly and unrealistic in parts.

Anyway, getting hold of a good copy on video would be difficult. After a lot of searching I found this:

http://www.play.com/...on/Product.html

I got it a used copy of it that was cheaper, there was no way I was paying that much money for it. It does have the 1982 version:

Quote

* 'E.T. - The Extra Terrestrial': The restored, remastered and re-edited 20th anniversary edition of the film (2002)
* 'E.T. - The Extra Terrestrial': The restored and remaster original edit of the film (1982)

I just hope it really is the original version with none of the CG changes. I'll let you know when I get it.

I have ET on VHS on the back it says 1985-2002. It may or may not be the newer version. I havent watched it in a while so I cant remember if those changes are in it tho. But I must watch it to see.
