Michael Jackson Cardiff tickets to go on sale

Tickets for the Michael Jackson tribute in Cardiff will go on sale next week despite further criticism of the event, its UK-based promotion consultant says.

Paul King said the plan was for tickets to go on sale to the general public at 09:00 BST on Wednesday morning.

On Friday music website Stereoboard UK branded the gig "a damp squib" and cast doubt on whether it would still take place.

But Mr King insisted: "The concert is very much going ahead."

The 8 October Michael Forever concert at the Millennium Stadium was announced by producers Global Live Events on Monday 25 July but has since been dogged by controversy.

Despite reports that Jackson's mother Katherine, his sister La Toya and brothers Tito, Marlon and Jackie, were endorsing the event, the late singer's other brothers Jermaine and Randy labelled it "inappropriate" and "ill-timed".

On Thursday news that rock band Kiss had been dropped from the bill, after branding the star a child abuser, prompted Jermaine Jackson to say: "This mishandling reinforces my view that this promoter is getting it all wrong."

In response Global Events Live chief executive Chris Hunt called the Kiss booking an "oversight".

And in an article published on its website Stereoboard UK claimed:

"When you look at all of the facts and take everything in to consideration, it's more than fair that the fans aren't happy with the promoters or the concert," said the article.

"What could have been spectacular now seems like a damp squib. Poorly executed and without the necessary support from the estate needed to make it a success."

Global Live has been asked to respond to these criticisms.

Mr King, who said he had recently been brought on board with the event to look after advertising and the physical production of the show, responded to claims of poor advertising of ticket sales.

"There was never meant to be any advertising until the tickets went on sale," he said.

"The [online] registration process was meant to allow hard core fans a chance to buy tickets first."

Mr King confirmed: "The tickets will be going on sale next week.

"The registration process closes at midnight on Sunday and we are hoping to process all registrations within a 24-hour period.

"The current plan is for tickets to go on sale to the general public at 9am on Wednesday morning."

When contacted about the criticism labelled at the concert a spokeswoman for the Millennium Stadium responded said: "It's not a concern that we have.

"We continue to do what we need to do behind the scenes to deliver the concert."

Christina Aguilera and Leona Lewis are due to take part in the show.

Other stars set to appear include Cee Lo Green, Smokey Robinson, boy band JLS and Jackson's nephews 3T.

Michael Jackson, who died in June 2009 aged 50 while rehearsing for his This Is It tour, was cleared of child molestation in 2005.

Michael Jackson Fan Clubs Demand Tribute Concert Cancellation

A group of Michael Jackson fan clubs across the world have banded together in an open letter to event organizers, asking for the cancellation of a Michael Jackson tribute concert scheduled for Oct. 8 in Wales, Reuters reports.

The 35 fan clubs said that the event, which will include performances by Christina Aguilera, Smokey Robinson, Cee Lo Green and a satellite performance by Beyoncé, is "doomed to fail."

Michael Jackson Tribute Concert Big on Hoopla, Short on Details

The tribute falls during the Los Angeles trial of Jackson's doctor, Conrad Murray, for involuntary manslaughter. The singer died at age 50 in L.A. on June 25, 2009.

"From the timing of this tribute, in the middle of Dr. Murray's trial, to the ticketing prices, to the obscurity over what charities will be receiving the donation, to the no-guarantee policy of performers, the addition of Gene Simmons and dishonouring, thus tarnishing Michael Jackson's legacy was simply the last straw," reads the letter, posted to the "Fans Against Michael Forever Tribute" Facebook page.

Concert organizers, Global Live Events, dropped KISS from the lineup after receiving widespread criticism for booking the band. Bassist Gene Simmons said in an interview last year with Classic Rock magazine, "There's no question in my mind he molested those kids. Not a doubt," in reference to the molestation charges of which Jackson was acquitted after a 2005 trial in California.

KISS Removed from Michael Jackson Tribute Concert Lineup

The stadium in Wales holds about 75,000 people, but organizers have not yet said how many tickets, which range in price from 55 to 240 pounds ($90-360), have been sold or how many are still available to the public. The concert is scheduled to be broadcast around the world on paid television channels.

Jackson concert promoters remove Kiss from lineup

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Organizers of a Michael Jackson tribute concert dropped Kiss from the lineup after receiving widespread criticism for booking the band despite critical comments toward the late pop singer by bassist Gene Simmons.

The announcement Tuesday came a day after Global Live Events announced Kiss would join the show planned for Oct. 8 in Cardiff, Wales. Fans, media and the singer's estate quickly noted that Simmons has said in recent years that he was convinced Jackson molested children. Some of the critical comments came within days of Jackson's June 2009 death.

Jackson was acquitted of molestation charges after a 2005 trial in California.

Some of Simmons' harshest comments came last year in an interview with Classic Rock magazine. "Well, you know, where there's smoke there's fire," Simmons said regarding accusations that Jackson abused young boys. "There's no question in my mind he molested those kids. Not a doubt."

Global Events Live CEO Chris Hunt accepted blame, calling Kiss' booking an "oversight."

"Under the circumstances, we fully agree that even though Kiss is a band Michael admired, we have no choice but to rescind our invitation to them to appear in our tribute concert," Hunt wrote in a statement.

A spokeswoman for the band was not immediately available for comment.

It is the latest stumble for a show that is endorsed by Jackson's mother and several siblings but is opposed by brothers Jermaine and Randy. The brothers have noted that the show is scheduled to happen during the involuntary manslaughter trial of a doctor charged in Michael Jackson's death.

Fans have protested ticket prices —which start at nearly $100 — the lineup and the show's faraway location since "Michael Forever — The Tribute Concert" was announced last month.

Howard Weitzman, an attorney for Jackson's estate, questioned the show in a letter sent to Hunt on Tuesday, questioning whether any of the show's proceeds would be going to charity, as promoters have claimed.

Kiss' departure leaves Smokey Robinson, Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green as the show's superstars.

Jackson fans say tribute concert "doomed to fai"'

A group of 35 Michael Jackson fan clubs have joined forces to lobby for the cancellation of a Michael Jackson tribute concert, saying the October event is "doomed to fail".

In an open letter to organizers Global Live Events, the fan clubs representing thousands of die-hard Jackson followers in Europe, Australia, China and Russia, said they had multiple concerns with the October 8 event in Wales.

These ranged from confusion over charitable donations to the timing of the concert during the scheduled involuntary manslaughter trial in Los Angeles of the singer's doctor.

Organizers on Monday announced that Beyonce would sing one song via satellite at the "Michael Forever Tribute." Other headliners include Christina Aguilera, Smokey Robinson and Cee Lo Green who are due to perform a Jackson hit along with their own songs. Ticket prices range from 55 to 240 pounds (about $90-$390).

Last week, organizers were forced to oust rock band Kiss from the line-up after Jackson fans recalled that frontman Gene Simmons called the "Thriller" singer a child molester last year.

Some of Simmons' harshest comments came last year in an interview with Classic Rock magazine. "Well, you know, where there's smoke there's fire," Simmons said regarding accusations that Jackson abused young boys. "There's no question in my mind he molested those kids. Not a doubt."

"From the timing of this tribute...to the ticketing prices, to the obscurity over what charities will be receiving the donation, to the no-guarantee policy of performers, the addition of Gene Simmons and dishonoring, thus tarnishing Michael Jackson's legacy was simply the last straw," said the letter from fan clubs.

"Please understand that this concert is doomed to fail now...Do the right thing for Michael Jackson and cancel this tribute," said the letter, posted on the Fans against Michael Forever Tribute Facebook page.

Global Live Events did not return calls for comment on Monday.

Attorneys for Jackson's estate also expressed concerns last week about the planned concert, which is supported by the singer's mother Katherine and several of her children, but not by Jackson brothers Jermaine and Randy Jackson.

Organizers said last week they had pledged $100,000 of their own money to establish a trust fund for Jackson's three children and that ticket revenue "is going, at least in part" to the trust fund and to a Los Angeles Aids charity and the Princes Trust which helps youth job training and education in the UK.

Fans were encouraged to register in advance for tickets online and make a charity pledge. Organizers have not said how many people registered and how many tickets are left for public sale. The stadium in Wales holds about 75,000 people and the concert is due to be broadcast around the world on pay television and in movie theaters.

Janet Jackson won't attend tribute

Janet Jackson said Monday she won't attend a planned tribute concert for her older brother Michael in Wales because the show coincides with the trial of a doctor charged in the King of Pop's death.

The singer's one-sentence statement to The Associated Press does not criticize the show, as her brothers Jermaine and Randy have done, but cites the court case as her reason for not attending.

"Because of the trial, the timing of this tribute to our brother would be too difficult for me," her statement reads.

Her statement was released on what would have been her brother's 53rd birthday.

Organizers of "Michael Forever — The Tribute Concert" have struggled to line up top-name acts and have been criticized by fans and the late singer's estate for multiple reasons, including its costly tickets, timing and remote location.

The show is scheduled for Oct. 8 in Cardiff, Wales, and the singer's mother, Katherine, and some of her children are scheduled to attend.

Christina Aguilera, Smokey Robinson, and Cee Lo Green are the top-names listed as performers so far. Organizers had to rescind an offer to the band Kiss after fans and Michael Jackson's estate noted that singer-bassist Gene Simmons had harshly criticized the pop singer over the years.

Opening statements in the involuntary manslaughter trial of Dr. Conrad Murray are scheduled to begin on Sept. 27. Murray, who has pleaded not guilty, could face up to four years in prison if convicted.

Authorities allege he gave Michael Jackson a lethal dose of the anesthetic propofol and other sedatives in the bedroom of his rented mansion on June 25, 2009.

Interview: Cee Lo Green

Soul-pop star Cee Lo Green isn't gossip site TMZ's usual target.

The soft-spoken man behind the Grammy-nominated single F*** You isn't a party animal. He's not in trouble with the law and, as far as we know, he's not related to any of the Kardashians.

Yet there he was, trying to buy a used Rolls-Royce at a dealership in Los Angeles, when one of TMZ's camera crews decided to hijack the negotiations between Green and "the angriest, toughest, Britishiest dealer of all time."

Naturally, the site (and TV show) posted footage of the exchange, but danced around the ultimate question. Did Green end up laying down some green for the Rolls?

"No, I didn't get it," he says with a laugh during a phone interview. "(The dealer) called me an hour later and said the guy who was selling it decided not to sell it, for whatever particular reason.

"I've been looking for one of those Rolls-Royces in mint condition for a long time - I love the (Silver) Cloud III - but I'll find one.

"I used to have quite the car collection, but not anymore. Ever since my travelling has picked up pretty extensively, I've really minimized a lot of my belongings."

Except, perhaps, for his clothes. He's been making a lot of headlines for his increasingly flashy wardrobe - when he's not turning heads with his ridiculously catchy use of four-letter words or his latest music video, Cry Baby, which stars the actor who played the ultra-nasal and nerdy Urkel on Family Matters

Remember Green's crazy peacock costume at this year's Grammys? He's since been spotted in ruffly shirts and embroidered jackets in his Liberace-inspired video, I Want You, and a gold-disco-ballish leisure suit. Green says he's not trying to be the next Lady Gaga - nor does he feel the pressure to try to top each one of his outlandish outfits. He's just an ordinary guy

"I've learned from Lady Gaga," he says. "First of all, I'm not going to let her have all the fun. Second of all, she's great but she's carved out quite a niche for herself and I, for one, only do it when I feel like it, not because of anyone's expectations of me.

"I think that's kind of what my charm is - I can still come out in something very simple. That's my whole approach to music and artistry - working-class hero - so I'm out to show how this is truly art imitating life and the normal people are the beautiful people.

"Then again, they don't pay me to be normal ... or not completely, you know what I'm saying?"

Exactly. There's a reason he was selected as one of four judges for NBC's talent competition, The Voice. How many normal Joes can sing like Green? His purring falsetto can be as warm as a cat's kiss or as stinging as a claw in the arm, as showcased on F*** You from his latest solo album, The Lady Killer, or Gnarls Barkley's 2005 smash, Crazy, recorded with drummer/producer Danger Mouse.

Long before these hits, Green was a member of Goodie Mob, a hip-hop crew from Atlanta. He left after their third album, 1999's World Party, but the foursome are now working on a reunion album.

"I wouldn't want to give out any disclaimers about what we're attempting to do because I don't want disappoint anyone who might be expecting something exactly as I say it," Green says.

"So, if anything, I can have my own expectations and intentions and we will really accomplish a feat if it's even greater than what I expected of myself."

He is, however, willing to hint about his tour expectations - a "big" trek featuring himself, Goodie Mob and Gnarls Barkley.

When? It's still too early to say. There's still no release date on the Mob's record, or the next Gnarls album.

Meanwhile, he's getting ready for a few festival dates, including Sunday's Sonic Boom at the Expo Centre, and a Michael Jackson tribute concert in Cardiff, Wales. Or maybe not.

Green is one of the scheduled performers - along with Christina Aguilera, Ne- Yo and Smokey Robinson - but some Jackson fans and three of his siblings, including Janet Jackson, won't participate in the Oct. 8 show. They say the timing is terrible because Dr. Conrad Murray's trial for involuntary manslaughter is set to start on Sept. 20. (He's accused of administering an anesthetic to Jackson in the hours before his death.)

Their statements are causing confusion among other fans and even the performers themselves.

"I just read the gig was cancelled, so I'm not sure," says Green. "But I'm up for it - I already have my bags packed. It's honourable to be asked by the family and estate to celebrate the life and accomplishments of Michael Jackson."

Michael Jackson tribute tickets still on sale

TICKETS to the Michael Jackson Concert are still available, despite just one month to go until the show.

Michael Forever – The Tribute Concert, which features Christina Aguilera and JLS, takes place on October 8 at the Millennium Stadium.

Despite a huge build-up to tickets going on sale last month, the show has not yet sold out.

However, organisers say ticket sales have been steady and they expect them to increase as more acts are added to the bill.

The latest acts to be announced were Gladys Knight and US singer Ne-Yo.

Black Eyed Peas to play Michael Jackson Millennium Stadium tribute gig

Posted Image

The Black Eyed Peas will join the star-studded line-up for Michael Forever, the Jackson family’s Millennium Stadium tribute to Michael Jackson.

The band who have sold 56 million records are acknowledged Jackson fans and paid tribute to Michael at the Glastonbury Festival in 2009.

Peas’ co-founder will.i.am worked as a producer in the studio with Michael, from 2007 until his death. Speaking from L.A. he said: “This show is going to be an incredibly personal and moving evening for me.

“Remember that Michael’s music, his great, great songs, have been an inspiration to my whole life and certainly formed the soundtrack to my childhood. When I was a little kid of six or seven growing up in Los Angeles, there was Michael recording Thriller, and all his early hits, just a few miles away across town - obviously I didn’t know him at that time, but I loved him as a fan.

“Then one day about four years ago, with The Black Eyed Peas well established, I got a call from him I will never forget. I then had the great privilege of working with him and getting to know him and his beautiful family.”

“That’s why The Black Eyed Peas wouldn’t miss being at the Millennium Stadium for this gig on October 8th: we all owe Michael such a lot.”

Appearing on the night will be members of the Jackson family, including, from the original Jackson Five, Michael’s brother Marlon, who said: "We‘re all really delighted and touched that the Black Eyed Peas are able to come and take part “ he commented.

“My brother rated Will.i.am and the original things he does in music very highly. I guess you could say it was a case of mutual respect.”

The Black Eyed Peas also played the opening of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa, where they were watched live by more than 700 million people around the globe.

The Saturday, October 8, line-up also includes Christina Aguilera, multi Grammy winner Cee Lo Green, oscar & Bafta winning singer and actress Jennifer Hudson, Motown legends Gladys Knight and Smokey Robinson, British artists Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, JLS and Diversity as well as Ne-Yo, Pixie Lott, Alien Ant Farm, Jamie Foxx and Craig David

Black Eyed Peas out of Cardiff Michael Jackson concert

The Black Eyed Peas will not be taking part in the Michael Jackson tribute concert in Cardiff at the weekend.

Event organisers said the cancellation was due to "unavoidable circumstances".

The singer's sister La Toya and the Jackson Brothers, Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Gladys Knight and Smokey Robinson are amongst the stars taking part.

BBC Radio 1 presenter Fearne Cotton will co-host the Millennium Stadium concert with Hollywood star Jamie Foxx.

"It is with regret that we announce the removal of Black Eyed Peas from the Michael Forever bill, but I look forward to a great night with other earth shattering artists," said Chris Hunt, the chief executive officer of Global Live Events.

Michael Jackson died aged 50 in June, 2009 while rehearsing for his This Is It tour.

The tribute concert in Cardiff will raise money for three charities including the Los Angeles-based Aids Project.

On Tuesday his brothers Marlon, Tito and Jackie Jackson, who will be taking part in the concert with their sister La Toya, defended the decision to hold the event while the trial of his doctor is underway in the US.

Dr Conrad Murray denies involuntary manslaughter.

Michael Jackson tribute show to take place in Tokyo

Following the Michael Forever bonanza in Wales, the Jackson family have announced another show in Tokyo, which will benefit survivors of the Japanese earthquakes.

Posted Image

Following the tribute concert in Wales, Michael Jackson's family have announced their next big-budget tribute show, to take place in Tokyo. Several of Jackson's brothers will perform at the two-day concert, which will benefit children affected by Japan's March earthquakes. "[I'm] glad to see them back on stage," admitted Michael's mother.

"If Michael was alive, he would definitely have done something to help the victims of the earthquake in Japan," Katherine Jackson declared at a London press conference. "[He] loved children [and] he would have felt for those children who lost parents or homes."

Jackie, Marlon and Tito Jackson – without Randy, according to his Twitter account – will perform as the Jacksons, singing "around 15 songs". It's not clear whether these will be drawn exclusively from the siblings' old repertoire, or also from Michael's solo hits. At Saturday's Michael Forever bonanza, the three brothers joined JLS for a rendition of Blame it on the Boogie. JLS are hoping to release that team-up as a single. "We discussed some things backstage about the future and they want to take us out for dinner to talk further," Oritsé Williams told The Sun. "It would be amazing."

In addition to the performance by the Jacksons, the Tokyo gigs will include numerous as-yet unnamed Japanese acts. All merchandising profits would go to Ashinaga, a charity that benefits children who lost their homes or families during this year's earthquakes.

Thus far, the Jackson family have been split on the matter of tribute concerts. In particular, Randy and Jermaine have expressed their concern about drawing attention away from the trial of Conrad Murray, Michael's former doctor. Janet Jackson also refused to perform at the Cardiff show. While Murray's trial is expected to be completed before the 13-14 December concerts, Randy, Jermaine and Janet have not offered their support for the Tokyo event.
