Rebbie Jackson and Mental Illness Discussion
Rebbie Jackson discussed the mental illness suffered by her daughter. Rebbie is Michael Jackson’s older sister. She stated that her daughter, Yashi Brown, suffers from File:Human brain.pngschizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The mother and daughter pair gave a truly revealing interview to FOX411’s Pop Tarts. Jackson and Brown were hoping to spread awareness about mental illness and were also promoting Yashi’s upcoming book, Black Daisy in a White Limousine: 77 Poems.
Speaking about the mental illness, the 60-year-old Rebbie said, “It was such a hard thing, it has all been an experience I will never ever forget and all I wanted was to find a solution or a way in which Yashi could just solve the problems. A lot of people are having these disorders and they don’t know it because there are very different degrees of bipolar… you have to get to the core of the problem, expose it and accept it does exist, and then you can go about learning how to deal with it.”
Speaking about her book, Yashi Brown, 33, said, “The poems date back to when I was in my teens to now. You can see some of the emotional changes and you get a sense of the true honest expression of all the things I’ve experienced with life, with family, love and all of that. You get a sense of what it is that we’re talking about.”
Fortunately, the fact that Rebbie is part of the infamous Jackson family will help bring awareness to many about mental illness. It will also help with Yashi’s book sales. Hopefully, their ordeal will help someone in distress who’s confused about their own mental illness. In the end, if one person is helped by their story, that’s all that matters.
