Michael Jackson's This Is It won't be released on DVD until next year
Millions of Michael Jackson fans were hoping to have Michael Jackson's "This Is It" on DVD just in time for the holidays. Unfortunately, it no longer seems possible that Sony can pull that off.
The Los Angeles Times reported that due to a regulation requiring studios to wait ninety days before issuing a film on DVD, Michael Jackson's "This Is It" will likely not hit shelves on DVD until late January or early February.
Originally, film executives had hoped that they could work around the stipulation because of the film's short theatrical release of only two weeks on 6,000 screens in 3,481 theaters.
Although holiday profits will not be realized for Michael Jackson's "This Is It," the documentary chronicling the final days of Michael Jackson's life has not struggled to earn revenue so far. Currently the number one film in the US and generating millions in overseas venues as well, Michael Jackson's "This Is It" will likely stay perched atop the box office heap until the two-week theatrical run has concluded.
