Kenny Ortega, a good friend of Michael Jackson and the choreographer of “This Is It,” told Oprah Winfrey today that Michael Jackson was excited and pumped up about his concert project. Michael called it “a project with real purpose,” Ortega said.
Oprah treated viewers to a sneak peek of “This Is It” and explained that it was brought into her studio by an armed guard. Ortega and Oprah both agreed that Michael Jackson is bigger than life in the film, and that he’s so present “you can forget he isn’t with us.” The film is a compilation of two months of rehearsals at the Staples Center in LA. "This Is It" will open nationwide on Wednesday, October 28th for a limited two-week run. All major ticketing websites will begin selling tickets this Sunday. Oprah predicted that the movie “will break all records of all-time.”
Oprah questioned Kenny Ortega about Michael Jackson’s last days, and commented on how thin he looks in the film. Ortega said that Michael claimed he was at “his fighting weight to be able to dance.” Ortega went on to tell Oprah, “I saw fatigue at times and he had sleepless nights.” There was always an ample supply of healthy foods in the refrigerator and “we looked after each other like a family looks out for each other.” He said there was no hint at all of any drug abuse problems during Jackson's final days.
Kenny Ortega was a very close friend of Michael Jackson since the 1980’s. He is a world- class choreographer with "Dirty Dancing" and the "High School Musical" movies listed on his impressive resume. He said sorrowfully that Michael Jackson’s death was a blow to the world. The last four months have been a healing process for the talented choreographer, but he also said, “he’s still very much alive for me.”
